A random guy on the street in Vietnam gave me one of the simplest and most powerful pieces of advice I’ve heard in a long time:
“Just do it.”
In this episode of The Sean Trace Show, we talk about why motivation is unreliable, how routines change your life, why getting physically stronger matters, and how learning real skills can completely transform your future.
We also dive into:
• Habit stacking
• Building confidence through hard things
• Creating more than you consume
• Cutting negative people out of your life
• Why time is moving whether you act or not
If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, unmotivated, or unsure where to start, this episode is for you.
You do not need to have everything figured out.
You just need to start moving.
What’s one thing YOU are doing right now to become a better version of yourself?
Alright, everyone, I met some dude who's got a cool ass shirt. I'm driving down the street and check this out. Yo, guys, I'm CD. I'm German living in Vietnam. Do something with your life. What should people do if they want to do something with their life? Stand up. Don't give up. Just try and don't think so much. Just do it. I love it, man.
SPEAKER_00Thanks, brother. Take care, man. I was walking down the street in that clip you saw was pretty awesome. I think I was driving and I saw this guy that was wearing a shirt that said, just do something with your life. And that was something that I was just like, I was like, I gotta go find that guy and ask him what advice he has. And it was pretty awesome advice. He said, just do it. And one of the things that I thought about was how true that is. Just do it. You know, Nike's got that amazing slogan, just do it. And probably one of the greatest slogans for sports ever. And one of the great things I love about that is just do it. It builds upon one simple premise. Stop waiting for motivation. Now, this is crazy. Stop waiting for motivation. Motivation is unreliable. It is, because it's not always there. There are days that you've got your motivation, there are days that you don't. But what really works is building in routines and move even when you don't feel inspired. I don't feel inspired to drive my daughter to school at 6 a.m. every single day. But I still show up and I still do it. Why? Because it's something that I have to do. But I create routines with that. When I drive my daughter to school at 6, we get there at 6:30, I turn around and I come home. And you want to do it 7 before work every day? I go to the gym. Start doing habit stacking. And what I do is something that just shows up because I gotta take her to school. And the motivation's not there to go to the gym. But if I'm already out the door, then making the gym happen is really easy. Just do it. One of the things that I also love, and this is number two, is get physically stronger. Now, what is that all about? Lift weights, walk, train, sleep better, eat better, do martial arts. Man, there's so many things that you can do. A stronger body changes your mind fast. It's hard to just do it, just to go out there and do things when you're not in shape, when you feel tired, when your body is telling you, I don't even want to move. I don't want to get up. I just want to lay here all the time. And when you get physically stronger, it can help you feel confident that you have what it takes to get out there and try things. I remember there were times where my health wasn't that great. And it was hard to get out and start stuff. It was hard to get out and try stuff because I didn't feel confident. I felt worried, I felt scared, and that was not a good thing. So get out and make your body stronger. Tell me, what do you guys like? I love martial arts, I love lifting weights, and I love going to the gym. Those are things that are big for me. I'd love to know what you guys like. Now, here's number three: learn one valuable skill deeply. What does that mean? Be good at something. For me, it's talking. I love talking. I love teaching. I'm good at this. I'm really good at videos, making content, thinking about how to craft a story. That's stuff that I am good with. I'm good with conversations. I'm good with people. I'm good with talking. Maybe for you it's sales or editing or coding or teaching, communication, leadership, storytelling, finance, whatever it is. Find a way to become useful. That one thing that you learn valuable and that skill that you have is something that you can use to provide value to the people in your life. And providing value builds this currency that you can use to cash in for things later on, to just do it and to make something of yourself in your life. So get out and learn something. Be something, be the best version of you. Now, one other thing that I love to think about when I'm thinking about just do something with your life is this. And this is something I'm teaching Nylani every single day. I'm trying at least. Create more than you consume. Now, I watch content, I watch other people's inspirational videos, but I try to make more than I even consume. Why? Because most people scroll all day. And I will tell you this the internet is a dark and scary place where there's a lot of really weird, really bad content out there. But if you can build something instead, whether it be videos, art, a business, writing, relationships, or skills, if you can build something, you have again a currency that you can exchange, you can give to people, you can build with it, you can interact with others through that thing. And it gives you the ability to move in someone's life, to move into your life, to move through this world. If you're great at making videos, if you're great at teaching, then people are gonna see that and it's gonna open doorways for you, which allow you to do something with your life, which is a good thing. This next one is really, really, really important. I'm gonna put it right there. Spend less time around negative people. I had a friend that wasn't a great friend. And every time I came up to them with an idea that I wanted to accomplish, they told me a million ways that I couldn't do it. They told me a million reasons that it was a bad idea. Do you know what? I stopped listening to that friend. I stopped hanging out with them. And what I found when I did that is that those things that they were telling me were impossible, I started doing. Now, I'm not hating on them. I think that they had their own internal limitations and they couldn't see that. But when they started projecting those limitations onto me, it started to affect our friendship in a negative way. And that wasn't good. Some negative people drain ambition out of you. And protecting your energy and your standards is a very, very, very important thing. I don't know care how you do it, but find ways to cut those people out of your life. Now there's another thing right there, do hard things on purpose. For me, I train way thai with my daughter. I am not good. I will say that first and foremost myself. I am not good, but I love it. And I try to do it more often so that I can grow and be stronger and be more confident. Now, what are those hard things that you're gonna do? Like maybe a cold call, maybe it's a difficult conversation with someone, maybe it's a workout, maybe it's public speaking, maybe it's risk, maybe it's discipline. Now, these hard things build confidence. It's getting out and talking to a person that you know you don't feel confident talking to. Maybe it's asking for a raise. You know what's gonna happen? If you don't ask for a raise, you're not gonna get it. But if you ask for one, there's more of a chance that you might get it. So get out today and ask for that thing that you might want to be asking for. Do that thing that is hard to do. Maybe it's running a lap around a building. Maybe it's running all the way to your daughter's school. That's what I did last week. It wasn't easy, but I did it. And that's an awesome thing. And the last thing, number seven, that I would say to look at is remember this. Time is moving no matter what. It's an arrow. And as much as a scientist might argue about this, you can't go both ways. As of right now, we're moving in one direction. And five years will pass, anyways. You can either become someone stronger, wiser, and more capable, or you can get stuck wishing you had started earlier. When was the best time to get in shape? Ten years ago. When's the second best time? Right now. When's the best time to start saving money? Like the day you were born. When's the second best time? Well, probably the day after that. But now, start making changes now. You'll be happy you did. What are some of the ways that you guys are making changes in your life? What are some of the ways that you're just doing it? What are some of the ways that you are becoming the best version of yourself? Let me know in the comments, and I'm looking forward to hearing more about how you're changing your lives today. I'll see you guys later. Take care.
